It's been a while

And what have I been doing?  I'm not sure but the time certainly flew by.

I did this pillow for my teacher's son.  I thought I would make something handmade to go with the other gifts, as this she would have for a while.  The finished size is 12 x 12.

This little bag I did for my knitting.  I read the finished dimensions of the project before I started it but I guess the light bulb didn't go off that it would be way too small.  I love it - so tiny and cute, though I'm not sure what I will use it for.  This was done following a tutorial on A Quilting Life found here.

Both items were made from the Scrumptious collection by Bonnie and Camille.  I'm hoping I can finish at least one item from my finish a long list, so off I go.

Q4 Finish-a-long

So, I've decided to motivate myself to finish up some stuff I've been working on here and there.  I find whenever I write things down I do try to work a little harder so here goes.

1.  My scrappy trip quilt started last week.  This is my winter quilt to be used downstairs.  At this moment I have 3 more blocks to make, then quilt and bind.

2.  Star Surround Quilt

The quilt along is finished and I am currently hand quilting but it's really slow-going.  Hopefully I can try to put in some hours on the weekend. I want to finish this as I'm using it as the Christmas quilt for my daughter.

3.  Christmas Quilt for my bedroom

This was actually started last year and I am definately going to try to get it done for this year.  I need to add the borders, quilt and bind.

4.  Christmas quilt for my son

This I recently started and it's going pretty good so far.  I have to do the dresdens which is what is really holding me back.  Oh, I just remembered I ran out of background fabric.  Need to order some.

5.  Shawl

Doing this to wear in the winter.  This I should definately be able to finish as I can at least do one row per day.

6.  My daughter's swoon quilt

Two blocks are done and two more to go.  Again I need to order more background fabric.

It's a Scrappy Trip

On Sunday I started a Scrappy Trip Quilt.  I've been meaning to make one for myself to use downstairs, and on Sunday there was a big change in the weather and so I decided to start.  Between Sunday and yesterday I did the following (8 blocks), with 12 more to go.

In the evenings I've been trying to hand quilt this beauty.  It's the quilt from my Star Surround Quilt-a-long.  I only get to do about an hour each evening and I want to finish by end of November.

Until next time.

Wow!

This quilt top seemed to take me forever to piece but I made it in the nick of time to enter for the linky. It still needs a good press.  This was a great quilt-a-long hosted by Melissa at Happy Quilting.  I'm already looking forward to the next.

Coaster Swap

So, I took part in the Coaster Swap held over at Quilting Gallery.  My partner is the lovely Deborah from Italy.   I quickly snapped a few pictures before going to the post office to mail out.  I figured this would be a good time to practice my hand quilting especially since they are so small.  They finish at 4 1/2 inches.  My sewing machine has a beautiful blanket stitch but I could not figure out how to use it so I just did it by hand.

Farmer's Wife

I've gotten a few blocks done this week.  I can't wait to get this quilt done, it's going to be soooo pretty!

Block 16 - Calico Puzzle

Block 20 - Churn Dash

Block 21 - Contrary Wife

Back to sewing.

I made it!

Finally!

I'm all caught up with the Start Surround Quilt-a-long.  The blocks are looking so very pretty and I can't wait for the next set of instructions.  I've actually laid out one block and it's so pretty - big but pretty.

Here are pics of my blocks for this week's assignment.

Aiming for Accuracy Quilt A Long

Last week was spent taking care of the little ones who were both sick. As such there was very little sewing going on. I did manage to finish up my third block for this quilt along. I am still behind but hope to catch up this week.   The fabric line is California Girl by Fig Tree.

 Block 1

Block 2

Block 3

This Saturday I'm taking a machine quilting class from 10am to 4pm so I'm really excited about that.  I already have my quilt to practice on.

Now back to finishing up various projects.

Star Surround Quilt A Long

This is a really great quilt a long hosted by Melissa and found here.  She has a great design with various size options.  I will be doing a combination of 2 of the size options which will end up being 48 x 64 and 12 fat quarters.  I have adjusted her cutting instructions to include the additional blocks I will be doing.  My fabric selection is shown below, it's the line Avalon by Fig Tree Quilts.

Still haven't decided on the background fabric but I will choose between Moda White Bleached 97, Moda Snow or Moda Porcelain.  Right now I'm thinking the Snow may be too close to the yellow above, but I will see.

I'm also thinking the colour selection would allow me to use as a Christmas quilt for my daughter's bed.

ETA:  Finished cutting.  I had to do extra because I'm using 12 fat quarters.  My background fabric is cut as follows:

  72 - 3" x 3" squares
144 - 2 7/8" x 2 7/8" squares
144 - 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" squares

Farmer's Wife

I've gotten a little time to work on some farmer's wife blocks.  They are really enjoyable, and all of these were done without templates.

Block 2 - Autumn Tints

Block 4 - Basket Weave

Block 7 - Birds in the Air

Block 9 - Box

Block 11 - Broken Dishes

Block 12 - Broken Sugar Bowl

Now back to cutting for the Star Surround Quilt A Long.  Details found here.

Swoon

So, I've completed my first swoon block.  There seems to be some puckering in the middle block and I'm thinking of getting my seam ripper out, but for now I will let it be.

Quilt for Alexis

I recently finished a quilt for Alexis and since I had a few scraps left over I did a pillow as well.  The pillow is based on one I had seen over at NanaCompany's blog.  The tutorial for the quilt is found at sew4home.com.  Lots of great tutorials over there.

Quilt - 40 square using Vintage Modern fabrics

Pillow - 12 x 18 also using Vintage Modern.

Sewluxfabric BOM and Swoon

Block 1 for the block of the month.  I really love the grey background.  I haven't decided what I will be using for border fabric as yet.  Need to think about that.

My practice swoon blocks came out so well that I will turn it into a quilt for Alexis.  Here are pictures of two of the parts before putting it together.

Thinking I will do four blocks total which should bring it to about a 54 square.  May add a border but we will see.  At this time the plan is to straight line quilt it.  I've seen some with some beautiful straight line quilting but I'm not sure how far apart I want to do it.

Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt

I have been wanting to make one of these for the longest while and so I've decided to take the plunge.  I did block 1, Attic Windows today using the templates and it was not hard at all.  However, I will be figuring the math for most of the blocks as I go along.  Haven't decided what size I'll be making but it most definitely will not be the king size.

Here is block 1 - Attic Windows

I'm using Moda's Happy Go Lucky line by Bonnie and Camille.  I've only purchased a fat eighth bundle so when that is done I figure I will stop as well.  I also have a few scraps of Ruby that I will be using also.

Why do I need this blog?  Because tomorrow I will have forgotten that I want to use the aqua dot fabric  from the line to do the sashing.  It went incredibly well using the templates and I also managed to get a copy of them downloaded on 15 pages.

So excited!  All my pretty pictures in one place.

So excited!

I finally have a personal place to store all my creations, pictures, ramblings, and my thought process of the million things I want to make.
